“Chris Corey on Crafting ‘Midnight Forever’ and His Future in Music”

I just wanted to thank to InMusic Blog for the nice interview over the weekend. They touched on a lot of important aspects of my career so far and we also discussed my newest album Midnight Forever. If you have a spare moment have a look at the interview either on the website or below. Cheers!

From InMusic Blog:

Chris Corey on Crafting “Midnight Forever” and His Future in Music

Hailing from Northern Canada, Chris Corey is an emerging artist now based in Western Canada. His music blends different genres, from pop to country, from rock to New Wave. Chris’s musical journey began with brass instruments, but he soon realized that they didn’t quite fit the musician he wanted to become. He transitioned to drums, then guitar, and eventually found his voice as a singer-songwriter.

The Canadian singer has recently released the single “Lonesome Tonight,” a country ballad that showcases his ability to blend simple guitar chords with profound emotion. The song tells the story of someone longing for the return of a loved one, capturing the loneliness and yearning that many people experience. “Lonesome Tonight” is part of Chris’ debut album, “Midnight Forever,” which was released last month. The album’s concept was inspired by the creative energy that many artists find in the late hours of the night.

In his interview with InMusic, Chris opened up about his musical journey, the inspiration behind his latest work, and the experiences that have shaped him into the artist he is today.

What’s your musical genre?

Sort of a mix of Pop, Rock, Blues, Country and New Wave

Could you elaborate on your musical journey and the path that led you to where you are today?

I began learning brass instruments but felt that didn’t help me grow into the musician I wanted to be. So I trained on drums instead and then eventually started playing guitar and writing songs. After that singing just sort of came naturally to help me express the words on the page into living sounds.

Can you tell us about your new single, “Lonesome Tonight”?

This song is a sparse country tune I wrote in my head one day while messing around with some basic guitar chords. It’s more of a ballad and I hired a pedal steel player and a female vocalist to accompany me on the track.

What is the meaning behind this song?

The song is a bit of a love song where an individual is lamenting about the absence of a loved in his/her life and wishes for their return so that they can feel less lonesome.

“Lonesome Tonight” is from your debut album, “Midnight Forever,” which dropped last month. Could you tell us more about the concept behind the album?

I find a lot of creative and musician types tend to get some of their best work done in the later hours of the day heading into the night. Of course, this also includes playing shows, recording songs, and writing material. Being more of a night owl myself I thought wouldn’t that be a cool concept, to be able to have this creative energy indefinitely. That was where the title from the album came from.

Do you have any memorable moments from recording the album?

Just being in the studio tracking with various musicians was a unique experience. We hired a pedal steel player from Toronto to play on the album and he tracked his part on Lonesome Tonight from where he was then sent us the tracks – pretty cool to be able to work with remote musicians!

You started your career in 2019 with the project “Wildfire.” Looking back now, what are the main differences between that and your new album, “Midnight Forever”?

I liked a lot of the songs from that project but felt I didn’t spend enough time getting the best takes on things like vocals, guitars, etc. That does give that project a unique sound but from a performance and production standpoint I think the extra time I put into Midnight Forever really pays off with the final product.

Looking ahead, do you already have ideas for your next project, or are you focusing on this release for now?

Yup! I’m already writing and recording songs for my 2nd release and planning out possible future live dates, merchandise opportunities, radio promotions and so many other things.

What is a message you would like to give through your music, and why?

I don’t really have a specific message, I just write what I like and don’t stick to any sort of pre-ascribed methodology with things. But if something I write sticks with someone then that’s a great thing.

Is there anything else you’d like people to know?
